The Islamic Psychology Research Network (IPRN)
This network is established to provide a framework for researchers in the field of psychology from an Islamic and Maqasid perspective. The IPRN aims to generate knowledge based on the revelation (the Qur’an and the Sunnah) using a comprehensive revelation-centric and objectives-based (Maqasid) methodology.
The IPRN seeks to reconnect researchers with the rich heritage and contributions of Muslim scholars from various disciplines in the past, such as Imam al-Ghazali and Ibn Miskawayh. Simultaneously, it adopts a forward-looking approach that examines the Quran and Sunnah through a psychological lens and considers the lived realities of the 21st century.
It is crucial to have a grounded and indigenous Islamic approach to the field of psychology. Right from the inception of creating theories and treatments, the person’s soul and fitrah are regarded as integral aspects of human well-being. Therefore, a rooted revival and study of psychology from an Islamic and Maqasid perspective are essential to address the science of the soul.
